“Come unto me, all [ye] that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls”. Matthew 11:28-29 (KJV).
One quiet yearning of every heart is rest. after a time of labour and wearisome toil, the human heart begins to long for a rest. two things that wears out the human body and make him seek for rest very quickly include labour and burden. When a man labours, he either puts his physical body to task or his mental system to task depending on whether his labour is physical or mental. Whichever way, he would need a rest. while physical labour stresses the muscles, mental labour stresses the mental faculty. mental fatigue affects the general coordinated of the body system, since all the body functioning is coordination from the brain hub of the mental faculty. A burden is a load that is placed on a person to bear. There are two kinds of burdens. There is either a physical burden or an emotional burden. The physical burden might be a weight of a physical load, or a physical responsibility that may be placed on a person like the burden placed on Moses to carry the children of Israel from Egypt to the land of promise. The emotional burden might be a concern for a condition of some persons or thing that may mar a person’s joy or feeling of ease. So, when a person is sick, his state of ease is affected. He is not happy. Hi9s rest is taken away. A sick person has no rest. So, when the Master invites they that labour and heavy laden, He is providing a solution to the problems of men. The only rest that is available to man is found in Jesus. So, when Jesus invites you, He does so to give you rest. Rest from the burden of this life. Rest from the matters that make it impossible for man to follow after the Master. Rest from the labours that make it impossible for man to bear the Master’s yoke. Is the Lord giving you rest? The reason is to release you so that you would be free enough to be able to bear His yoke.
